Road Signs

  1. When traveling you see road signs that say "Slow Road Ends". Wouldn't it be wiser if they said "Stop"?

  2. Why do they put those Wrong Way signs on the highways? How do they know where you are going?

  3. Why do they bother with signs that say "Observe Warning Signs - State Law"? If you're not observing the signs to begin with, why would you pay attention to that one?

  4. Why do the signs that say SLOW CHILDREN have a picture of a running child?

  5. Why are there no ADVANCED SCHOOL CROSSINGS?

  6. Why do they have traffic signs that say SLOW CHILDREN PLAYING? Have you ever seen children play SLOW?

  7. What if you lived on a one-way dead end road?

  8. On the Coquihalla Highway through the Canadian Rockies there are numerous RunAway lanes for logging trucks in case their brakes fail. At the start of one of these RunAway lanes there is a fence with a Stop sign on it. If the logging truck has to use the RunAway lane because his brakes failed, how is he supposed to stop?

  9. Are you breaking the law if you drive past those road signs that say "Do Not Pass"?

  10. Why doesn't the Highway Department train their employees? Then rather than signs that say "Slow Men Working" they can say "More Efficient Men Working"!

  11. Why are there no GO signs on the roads?

  12. You know how you always see signs that say SLOW CHILDREN AT PLAY. Do the FAST kids move out the way or are they smart enough to stay off the road?

  13. Whats the point of those signs that say "Stop Sign Ahead"? And if they do serve some meaningful purpose, shouldn't there be some " 'Stop Sign Ahead' Sign Ahead" signs?

  14. What about those signs that read 'Speed Limit Enforced by Aircraft'? What do they do? Drop a bomb on you if you go over the limit?

  15. If you drive past a road sign that has been knocked over, do you still have to do what it says?

  16. What's with those signs that read 'Local Traffic Only'? Isn't all traffic that drives by it considered local traffic? How could traffic on the other side of town, which is not local traffic, be in two places at the same time?

  17. Why do American military bases have signs that read "Restricted to Unauthorized Personnel"?

  18. Why is the shortest route always marked 'Construction Ahead'?

  19. What's with these traffic signs that read 'Maximum 50 When Posted'? How are they different from those that read 'Maximum 50'? Do they mean that if you see a traffic sign that reads 'Maximum 80', you can go 80 but if it's mounted on a post, you can only go 50?

  20. Why is it that distances to exit signs are mostly in 1/8th mile increments (ie. 3/8 or 3/4 mile to next exit) and most warning signs are in feet (2000 feet to low bridge) but odometers in cars are in 1/10th mile increments?

  21. On your way to the Airport, if you see a sign that reads 'Airport Left', should you turn around and go back home?

  22. Why do they call them billboards? Why not bobboards?

  23. Why is it that all over America, there are lonely stretches of highway in the middle of nowhere with signs stating 'Emergency Parking Only'? What is the problem here? Are there folks out there who say ' Hey Marge! Waddya say we park here and hike the last 25 miles or so into town?

  24. At toll roads and bridges you have to stop to pay the toll, so why do they have speed limit signs at the toll booths?

  25. If you come across a road sign that reads 'Speed 50MPH Ahead' and there are two of you in the car, does that mean you legally can go 100MPH?

  26. When a road sign states 'Cross Traffic next 64 Miles', do you wonder what made it angry?
